Si l’orientation sexuelle de Shira ne pose aucun problème, son entourage peine à accepter qu’elle ait choisi une femme non juive – et allemande de surcroît. Survivante de la Shoah, Berta, l’impitoyable grand-mère adorée de Shira, montre son hostilité à ce mariage de façon particulièrement virulente. Allusions au passé nazi de l’Allemagne, remarques cinglantes et tentatives de sabotage ne manquent pas de fuser. Sur ce tableau déjà bien complexe, les parents de Maria décident de se rendre à Jérusalem afin de faire la connaissance de la future belle-famille de leur fille…
